Global Female Beatmakers: A Musical Journey Through Continents
“Be a homie & let us know what you think”
Grammy-nominated instrumentalists, underground innovators, and boundary-pushing creators—the women of beat making deserve your attention. After a brief hiatus, I'm back with a special episode that travels across continents to bring you the sounds of female producers who are revolutionizing music production but aren't getting their proper recognition.
The journey begins with MetalFlowerz, a seasoned beat maker who drops gems about her creative process. She describes inspiration as coming "like waves" and shares how she finds creative sparks in everyday moments—from nature to playing with her children. Her perspective on overcoming writer's block offers wisdom applicable beyond music: "When I get stuck, I just go back to normal mode. That's where you will find things will come to you."
From there, we embark on a global expedition of sound. We visit Sarah, The Illstrumentalist, whose Grammy nomination speaks volumes about her talent. We travel to Baltimore for LeXus aka AkousticFunkbot "Foodie Fingers," swing by California to experience Illixie's "Secret Garden," and drop into Austin where Meddah delivers the captivating "Miracle." The musical voyage continues through Paris, the UK, Hungary, and even Antarctica, before concluding in Argentina with Anto Pla's distinctive rhythms.
What strikes me most about these women is not just their technical prowess, but how each brings a unique voice and perspective to beat making. Their styles range from soulful and melodic to experimental and boundary-pushing, proving there's no single "female sound" but rather a rich tapestry of creative expression. As I exclaim throughout the episode: "This is fire!"
If you're looking to expand your musical horizons and support women who are changing the game, this episode is your essential guide. Check out each artist's full catalog, subscribe to their platforms, and spread the word. These beat queens deserve spots on your playlists and in conversations about who's shaping the future of music production. Let's give them their flowers while they can still smell them.
